Background
The EnerTracks Alumni Network supports individuals working in the field of the
transformation of energy systems in low and middle-income countries through a platform for
peer-to-peer exchange. The network is comprised of alumni of the EnerTracks study tour and
fellowship programmes, and aims to bring together eager, motivated, and highly ambitious
policy professionals from think tanks, civil society and academia. The alumni come from a
variety of regions and professional backgrounds, but they share one goal: To support a fair,
sustainable, and just energy transition for all.
There is no one size fits all approach to Just Transition, and every country must approach the
concept from their own unique perspective. Just transition requires a flexible interpretation of
the term itself, taking into account countries’ individual economic, political and social
circumstances to determine its meaning.
In a panel discussion format, a select group of civil society experts from the EnerTracks
Alumni Network will discuss examples of best practices, showcasing challenges and lessons
learned as well as providing insight into regional and national differences when it comes to
pursuing a Just Transition.

Key Outcomes
- There is no one-size fits all approach for an international Just Transition.
- Countries are facing and focusing on different challenges in the Just transition like labour reskilling, energy availability, gender or local language barriers.
- A just transition needs to be addressed on a local and global level. A balance between economic and social goals is very important to achieve a just transition for everyone.
- For a holistic approach towards an inclusive energy shift, there is a need to properly define the just transition and how it engages local communities to address the underlying challenges and potential way forward.
